Tibetan Parliamentary Delegation Meets Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives and members of Australian All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet

Dharamshala: A parliamentary delegation consisting of parliamentarians Khenpo Jamphal Tenzin, Tsering Dolma, Choedak Gyatso, and Tenzin Phuntsok Doring continued their advocacy effort in Australia.

On 19th August 2024, the delegation held a meeting with Dr. Zoe Bedford, the Executive Officer of the Australia Tibet Council at the Tibet Information Office where Dr. Bedford introduced the democratic functioning of Australia in the morning. Followed by a meeting with Dr. Bryce Wakefield, the Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Intellectual Affairs, where the Tibetan delegates had an interactive session with him about the critical situation in Tibet.

Thereafter, the Tibetan parliamentary delegation held a meeting with members of the Australian All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet. They were presented with a 12 point appeal letter and apprised with the current critical situation in Tibet. The meeting was very constructive and the Australian lawmakers assured doing their best. The meeting had the gracious presence of Senator Deborah O’Neill, MP Susan Templeman, Senator Dean Smith, Former Deputy Prime Minister & MP Michael Francis McCormack, and Former Speaker of the House and MP Andrew Bruce Wallace. They also met with Dr. Sophie Scamps, Federal MP for Mackellars.

In honour of the visiting Tibetan parliamentary delegation, a dinner was hosted by the aforementioned parliamentarians alongside Sharon Clayton, Federal MP for Newcastle and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, and Senator Jordon Alexander Steele-John at the parliament.

The delegation was accompanied by Representative Karma Singey, Chinese liaison officer Dawa Sangmo, and Secretary Lhawang Gyalpo of the Tibet Information Office alongside Dr. Zoe Bedford of Australia Tibet Council, and Thupten, executive member of Canberra Tibetan Community.
