Dharamshala, 24 November 2025: An Estonian delegation led by MP Juku-Kalle Raid, Chair of the Tibet Support Group in the Estonian Parliament, visited the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile earlier today. The delegation met with Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, engaging in discussions on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
The delegation included members of the Estonian Parliament, MP Tiit Maran (PhD), MP Anti Poolamets, MP Margit Sutrop (Professor, PhD), as well as Roy Strider, Coordinator of the Tibet Support Group in the Estonian Parliament, among others.
The meeting was held in the Standing Committee Hall, which also serves as the library of the parliamentary secretariat. During the discussions, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker highlighted the longstanding ties between Estonia and Tibet and expressed gratitude for Estonia’s steadfast support for the Tibetan cause. They emphasized the shared histories of suffering, struggle, and aspirations for freedom experienced by both peoples.
The Speakers also reflected on the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s engagement with the Baltic region, referencing the 2nd World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet held in Lithuania in 1995 and the 7th Convention organized in Latvia in 2019.
The delegation was briefed on how His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teachings on compassion, non-violence, and dialogue have shaped both the Tibetan freedom struggle and the functioning of democracy in exile. They also received an overview of the evolution, structure, and responsibilities of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, as well as the key objectives of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).
Furthermore, discussions focused on the critical situation inside Tibet. The Speakers appealed to the visiting delegates to amplify the voices they heard during their visit to the seat of the CTA and to work towards implementing the action plans adopted during the 9th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet.
