Dharamshala: Senator Jiří Dušek, Vice Chairman of the Committee on EU Affairs of the Czech Senate, visited the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile this morning on 11 March 2026. During his visit, he met with Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang to discuss matters of shared interest.

Welcoming the Senator, the Speakers thanked him for participating in the official commemoration of the 67th Tibetan National Uprising Day held the previous day. They also shared how, over the past 67 years in exile, the Central Tibetan Administration, with support from countries such as India, the Czech Republic, and many others, has been able to preserve and protect Tibetan heritage while keeping alive the Tibetan struggle.

Speaking about the special bond between the Czech Republic and Tibet, the Speakers highlighted the historic meeting between Václav Havel and His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Prague in 1990, when Havel became the first head of state to officially invite and host His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They also noted the recent meeting between Czech President Petr Pavel and His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 27 July 2025 in Ladakh, India, marking an unprecedented meeting between a sitting head of state and the Tibetan leader in India.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to the Czech Republic for its strong political support for Tibet, recalling Vice President of the Czech Senate Jiří Oberfalzer’s remarks during his address on Tibetan Uprising Day, in which he stated that Tibet is not a part of China.

Senator Jiří Dušek was accompanied by interpreter Sylvie Ginterová.
