Dharamshala, 9 March 2026: Parliamentarian Michael Brand, a member of the German Parliament and Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Bundestag, visited the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and met with Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang.

The MP was accompanied by Kai Müller, Executive Director of the International Campaign for Tibet in Germany.

During the meeting, the Speakers spoke about how Tibetans, under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, have witnessed the flourishing of democracy and its principles in practice during the 67 years of exile, after democracy was gifted to the Tibetan people by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They also highlighted how Tibetans have preserved and protected their linguistic, cultural, and religious heritage over the years while garnering international support for the Tibetan cause.

They further appreciated Germany’s significant role in passing several resolutions and motions on Tibet in the European Parliament and reiterated the need to appoint a Special Coordinator for Tibetan issues in the European Parliament. At the same time, they discussed the importance of challenging the PRC’s false narrative that Tibet has historically been part of China by presenting historical facts.

The speakers also credited the International Campaign for Tibet in Europe for its vital role in enhancing the visibility of the Tibet issue in Europe and expressed their gratitude for its commendable work.
